Somalia Blast Kills Five at Café Showing Euro 2024 Final
In Somalia, five individuals were killed by a car bomb explosion at a crowded cafe in Mogadishu on Sunday evening. The cafe was packed due to the televised broadcasting of the Euro 2024 final. Police reports indicated five deaths and approximately twenty injuries.
Top Cafe Attack
The incident took place at the Top Cafe, where the explosion occurred as people were gathered to watch the football match. Local media showed a massive fireball and billows of smoke rising into the sky.
Al-Shabab Involvement
Al-Shabab, a jihadist group linked to Al-Qaeda, has carried out numerous bombings and attacks in Mogadishu and other troubled areas of the country. This latest attack adds to their history of violence in the region.
Prison Incident
Separately, a group of five detainees, believed to be fighters of the radical Islamic group, were killed during a shootout while attempting to escape from the main prison in Mogadishu on Saturday. The clash resulted in the deaths of three guards and injuries to eighteen others, as confirmed by penitentiary authorities.
