Train accident in India
A passenger train derailed in the state of Uttar Pradesh, northern India, resulting in at least two deaths and 35 injuries, three of which are severe. The incident occurred on July 18, with the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailing in the Gonda district, near the city of Ayodhya.

Rescue Operations and Response
The rescue operations were promptly conducted, with no passengers trapped inside the overturned train. Officials and medical teams, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, were dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and manage the situation.
Railway System in India
India’s vast railway network, spanning 64,000 kilometers, remains the primary mode of transportation, carrying over 21 million passengers daily. However, the country has faced challenges with railway accidents, with an average of 20,000 annual fatalities between 2017 and 2021.
Modernization Efforts and Challenges
Despite ongoing efforts to modernize the railway infrastructure through a $30 billion plan, experts believe that India’s outdated railway system may persist for a considerable time, impacting safety and efficiency.
