Boeing Facing Challenges
Boeing is facing a series of setbacks, including criticism over the quality of its production and a string of airplane incidents. The company, based in Seattle, is now at risk of a large strike by its workers.
Workers’ Strike Threat
Around 20,000 to 25,000 employees, mainly machinists, have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a potential strike if negotiations with the IAM-District 751 union and management fail. The employees are demanding improvements and a significant increase in wages.
Pressure on Boeing
Negotiations between the union and Boeing have been ongoing since March, with little progress made. The workers are pushing for better pay and benefits as their current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in September.
Union Strength
The union, District 751, is in a strong position to negotiate with Boeing due to stagnant wages over the past eight years and the improved job market. Other sectors, such as airline pilots, have seen significant pay increases, leading Boeing workers to demand fair compensation for their work.
