Joe Biden abandonne sa candidature à l’élection présidentielle : « C’est dans l’intérêt supérieur de mon parti et de la nation que je me retire »

Joe Biden’s Decision to Withdraw from Presidential Race

Here is the text of the letter that Joe Biden addressed to his fellow citizens, announcing his decision to withdraw from the Democratic nomination race for the November presidential election. Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation. Today, America has the world’s strongest economy. We have made historic investments to rebuild our Nation, reduce prescription drug costs for seniors, and expand affordable healthcare to a record number of Americans. We have provided crucial care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years, appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court, and enacted the most significant climate legislation in world history. America is better positioned to lead than ever before. Nothing of this would have been possible without you, the American people.

Gratitude and Reflection

Together, we have overcome a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We have protected and preserved our democracy and revitalized our alliances worldwide. Serving as President has been the greatest honor of my life. While it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to withdraw and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will address the nation in more detail this week regarding my decision. For now, allow me to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And I want to sincerely thank the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me. I believe today what I have always believed: that there is nothing America cannot do when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.
