Israeli Forces Recover Bodies of Hostage and Soldiers

Israeli forces have recovered the bodies of a person held hostage during Hamas’ attack in southern Israel on October 7 and four soldiers killed on the same day who were being held in Gaza, the army announced on Thursday, July 25.

Identification and Recovery Operation

According to a statement from the military, an operation led by analysts and coordinators of the Shin Bet (domestic intelligence services) successfully retrieved the bodies of the slain hostage Maya Goren and the soldiers held captive – Staff Sergeant Oren Goldin, Staff Sergeant Tomer Ahimas, and Sergeant Kiril Brodski in the Khan Younes region.

Confirmation of Deaths and Recovered Bodies

Based on reliable intelligence, it was confirmed that Maya Goren had been murdered, while Staff Sergeant (Reserve) Oren Goldin, Staff Sergeant Tomer Ahimas, and Sergeant Kiril Brodski had fallen in combat during the brutal attack on October 7, with their bodies taken to Gaza. Additionally, the army later revealed the recovery of the body of Sergeant Aryeh Katz, also killed in the same attack on October 7.

Updates on Other Recoveries and Captives

On December 1, the army informed Maya Goren’s family of her death and that her body was held in Palestinian territory, as her husband Avner Goren was also killed in the kibbutz attack. The Nir Yitzhak kibbutz confirmed the return of Oren Goldin’s body from Gaza after being held captive since the October 7 attack. Out of the 251 individuals abducted that day, 111 remain captive in Gaza, with 39 confirmed dead, per the army’s report.
