Boeing Names Kelly Ortberg as New CEO

The American aerospace group Boeing announced on July 31st that Kelly Ortberg would be taking over as its new CEO on August 8th, replacing Dave Calhoun. Ortberg, who has worked in the aerospace industry for thirty-five years, will lead Boeing in its next chapter.

Background and Experience

Kelly Ortberg began his career as an engineer at Texas Instruments in 1983. He later joined Rockwell Collins, now known as Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX. Ortberg, 64 years old, retired from RTX in 2021 and expressed gratitude for joining Boeing.

Previous CEO’s Departure and Financial Results

Dave Calhoun, the previous CEO, faced challenges during his tenure, including production and quality control issues. Following two deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019, Calhoun announced his retirement in March. Boeing reported second-quarter results below analyst expectations, with a net loss of $1.44 billion due to reduced commercial aviation deliveries and defense contract losses.
