Australian Man Arrested After Intrusion Attempt at Stade de France

An Australian man was taken into custody for trying to access the athletics track at the Stade de France just before the start of the men’s 100-meter race on Sunday, August 4th evening, according to police sources. He was wearing a t-shirt with messages “FREE PALESTINE” and “FREE UKRAINE” and was intercepted by a stadium security guard. The 24-year-old man was detained at the police station in Saint-Denis for further investigation.

Security Response and Event Delay

Tony Estanguet, the president of the Olympic organizing committee, mentioned that there was an attempted intrusion before the 100-meter race. He praised the quick response of the private security team and the remarkable work of law enforcement in handling the situation. Media outlets shared images from social media showing the man being restrained near the track by security personnel before being removed from the stadium. The 100-meter finalists had to wait for several minutes before taking their positions in the starting blocks.

Event Continues After Delay

Despite the delay caused by the incident, Tony Estanguet emphasized that the interruption was brief in the context of the overall event. He mentioned that the International Association of Athletics Federations decides when to proceed with the races based on readiness. The winner of the 100-meter race, American athlete Noah Lyles, stated that he was unaware of the incident during the competition.
