The Legal Battle
Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and two of its co-founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, alleging that they have strayed from the original mission of the organization. OpenAI, established as a non-profit with the goal of developing strong artificial intelligence for the public good, has drawn the ire of Musk for apparently prioritizing profit over its initial altruistic intentions.
Repeated Legal Action
This is not the first time Musk has taken legal action against OpenAI on the same grounds. He previously filed a lawsuit in February, later withdrawing it in June without explanation. The latest complaint, filed in a California court, accuses Sam Altman of deceiving Musk by exploiting his concerns about existential threats posed by AI to secure funding.
Elon Musk’s Response
In response to the alleged manipulation, Musk has launched his own AI company, xAI, in 2023. The company introduced its chatbot Grok in November, positioned as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
