A Nightlife Legend Lost
The B018 nightclub in Beirut, Lebanon, once a renowned hotspot attracting crowds of locals, celebrities, and international DJs, now sits closed and abandoned. The aftermath of the devastating 2020 Beirut port explosion and regional conflicts have sealed the fate of this iconic establishment, leaving only a few scattered glimmers of past revelries.
A Legacy Fading Away
Located in the industrial Quarantaine district of northern Beirut, the B018’s roof, once adorned with mirrors reflecting the starlit sky and chaotic traffic below, now lies dormant, overgrown with weeds. The son of the club’s founder nostalgically refers to it as “my home,” reminiscing about the days when he used to DJ there. Recent disputes with the club’s management company have left the building in disrepair, with essential equipment missing and access denied with a heavy padlock on the entrance.
A Symbol of Lebanon’s Turmoil
The closure of the B018 in early 2021 marked the end of an era, mirroring the decline of nightlife in Beirut amidst economic hardship, emigration of the youth, and the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the port explosion. The tragic events of August 4, 2020, where a massive blast claimed hundreds of lives and destroyed iconic nightclubs in the area, further solidified the demise of Beirut’s once-thriving nightlife scene.
