Norman Thavaud’s Return to Social Media
Former YouTube star Norman Thavaud resurfaced on social media after being targeted in a judicial investigation for rape and corruption of minors, which was eventually closed at the end of 2023. In a video posted online on Sunday, August 11, he addressed the issue for the first time in nearly two years.
Apology and Reflection
In the sixteen-minute message, Thavaud acknowledged that his approach to relationships and seduction may have been inappropriate and immature at times. He expressed regret for any inadvertent harm caused and described the impact of the accusations as “cataclysmic” for himself and his loved ones.
The Legal Battle
Thavaud, with 11.5 million subscribers, declared his innocence and expressed the struggles he faced due to the accusations, including financial difficulties after his YouTube channel was demonetized. Despite considering the worst, he emphasized the importance of distinguishing genuine accusations from false ones to uphold the credibility of victims’ voices.
Past Success and Allegations
Rising to fame in the early 2010s with humorous videos, Thavaud attracted a massive following on YouTube. An investigation in 2022 into allegations of rape and corruption involved interviews with seven young women who claimed interactions with Thavaud, leading to explicit exchanges and, sometimes, sexual encounters.
Legal Resolution
Thavaud was placed in custody in December 2022 but argued that the encounters were consensual. The investigation concluded in October 2023, citing insufficient evidence for the allegations of rape and corruption of minors. The prosecutor highlighted that consent was not misled and the age of the individuals involved was not indicative of criminal intent.
