Raphaël Glucksmann encourage à “passer à autre chose de Macron et Mélenchon” avant 2027.

Raphaël Glucksmann’s Call for Social Democrats to Break from Macronism and Mélenchonism

After a politically charged summer during which he intentionally stayed away from microphones and television studios, Raphaël Glucksmann reclaims his voice and urges social democrats to break free from Macronism and Mélenchonism. In an interview with Le Point, the leader of the Socialist-Place publique list, who came in third in the European elections, declares: “The era of Jupiter and Robespierre is over! It is time to turn the page on Macron and Mélenchon.” Glucksmann, a Member of the European Parliament, had ultimately lent his support to the coalition of the left-wing New People’s Front in the name of “electoral unity against the far right” and advocates for a split from Jean-Luc Mélenchon, accusing him of having only one goal: “to be a presidential candidate as soon as possible, even if it paves the way for the far right,” while projecting himself to 2027. He firmly believes that “in 2027, it will be social democracy, not a Macronism substitute or a left-wing populism avatar, that will confront Le Pen-ism.” Glucksmann claims the “responsibility” to “build a dominant social democratic force intellectually, with a credible project for societal transformation… capable of defeating the far right in the next national elections,” while ruling out any option for the prime minister role and criticizing the NFP’s method of seeking power since the second round of legislative elections.

Consultations at the Elysée and the Nomination of a New Government

Emmanuel Macron has invited various party leaders and parliamentary group heads to the Elysée on Friday, August 23, for consultations in the process of forming a new government, over a month after the resignation of Gabriel Attal’s cabinet. The New People’s Front announced that they would attend together and with Lucie Castets, their pick for Prime Minister, despite her not being a parliamentarian or party leader.
