Thomas Cazenave Confirms Budget Preparations
The resigning Minister of Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, stated in an interview with Le Parisien on Saturday, August 31, that the deadlines for the preparation of the State budget would be met. He also acknowledged that this year’s revenues were lower than anticipated.
Parliamentarians’ Ultimatum for Budget Documents
As deadlines tighten for the State budget preparation, some parliamentarians had threatened to conduct their own investigations at Bercy if certain documents were not provided to them by Monday. Cazenave assured that the requested information would be handed over promptly to satisfy the demands of Eric Coquerel and Charles de Courson.
Challenges and Adjustments for 2024 Budget
Cazenave further confirmed that, for the year 2024, some revenues were below expectations due to unforeseen expenses, particularly in support of New Caledonia and the significant rise in spending by local authorities. The Budget Bill is scheduled to be presented to Parliament by October 1st and must be approved and published before January 1st.
