Covid-19: a recent release by Professor Didier Raoult reported to health authorities

Controversy Surrounding Professor Didier Raoult’s Latest Publication

L’Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Marseille and Fondation Méditerranée Infection have alerted the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) about a new publication by the controversial Professor Didier Raoult. The article in question, co-authored by Raoult and his former collaborator Philippe Brouqui, was published in the August 2024 issue of Acta Scientific Microbiology. The publication claims to demonstrate the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating Covid-19 based on data from 1,276 patients treated at the IHU in Marseille. However, the methodology used in the article has raised concerns as it reportedly involved unauthorized patient data and research.

Disassociation by APHM and Fondation Méditerranée Infection

In response to the controversial publication, APHM and Fondation Méditerranée Infection, which oversees the IHU, have formally distanced themselves from the article. They have raised objections to the methodology employed in the study, highlighting the use of unauthorized data. This disassociation comes as part of a move towards normalcy at the IHU following the retirement of Professor Raoult.

Legal Action and Allegations Against Professor Raoult

This is not the first time Professor Raoult has faced scrutiny for his research practices. In 2023, ANSM had taken legal action after another study co-authored by Raoult was published without the necessary authorizations. Raoult and his team have been accused of conducting unauthorized studies at the IHU during the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. The controversy surrounding Raoult’s research continues to be a topic of discussion and investigation.
